JOHN HOOK Obituary

Visit the Harper & Lucas Funeral Home & Cremation Services website to view the full obituary.

John Hook was born July 19, 1981 in Fort Worth, Texas to Wendy and Clayton Hook. He attended Ft. Worth Country Day School, where he made lifelong friends and taxed the patience of many of his teachers. It was there that he sharpened the wit and humor for which he was known all his life.

John graduated from Claremont McKenna College in California in 2003, then launched into a succession of eclectic occupations including: night club bouncer, vacuum cleaner salesman and waiter, before finding his true vocation as petroleum landman. John’s curiosity and love of research provided him with the tools and zeal he needed to dig into especially tricky title searches.

John felt privileged to have studied painting with Ron Tomlinson and enjoyed painting all his life. John had an enthusiasm for language and linguistics. He cultivated cacti and was an enthusiastic member of the Cactus and Succulent Society. His curiosity was far reaching, which helped him compete in trivia contests.

John was a man of wide and unusual experience and entertained his friends with his stories. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

John is survived by his parents and beloved younger brother, Steven, and a host of friends and acquaintances. He is also survived by his Uncle Cass and Aunt Scout and cousin Ford Hook; his Aunt Judy and Uncle Dennis Sherrard; and cousins Jack Sherrard, Emma Sherrard and Gina Fullerton; his Aunt Phyllis Behimer and cousin Natalie Malloy, and many second cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Louise and Harvey Walls, Mary Kelly and Harold Hook.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 1 pm Saturday, November 23, in the Chapel at Harper & Lucas, formerly ROBERTSON MUELLER HARPER.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humane Society of North Texas, the Presbyterian Night Shelter or a charity of their choice.
