John P. Horvath, 86, of Trenton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Avalon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Hamilton.

Born and raised in Trenton, John was a lifelong area resident. He attended St. Mary's Grammar School, Junior 4, and graduated from Trenton High School. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country honorably for four years.

Following his military service, John worked for many years as a crane operator at U.S. Steel in Fairless Hills, eventually retiring from the position. An accomplished archer, he earned the State Archery Championship Title multiple years in a row, both in indoor and outdoor competitions.John had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a longtime member of the Holy Name Bowling League and a devoted parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, where he also volunteered his time. He was a proud lifetime member of the Black Knight Bow Benders, the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth (Erdegova) Horvath; his siblings, Michael Horvath, Andy Horvath and Margaret Durcanin; and brother-in-law, Carl Durcanin; he is survived by his brothers, Joseph Horvath and George Horvath; nieces, Christine (Jim) Reilly and Margie Misciascio (late husband, Nick); nephew, Carl Durcanin (late wife, Joyce); great nieces and great nephews, Eric (Corrine) Reilly; Michael Reilly, Brian Reilly, Thomas Misciascio and Charlotte Misciascio; 2 great-great nieces, Martine and Maya Reilly; and lifelong friends, Robert Jarosz and Jack Breza.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buklad-Merlino Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ, with Father James Spera, officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, #2, Hamilton, NJ.
