Obituary
John Bernard Huemmer, 84, of South Bend passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 8, 2023. John was born in Mishawaka, IN on June 4, 1939, to the late Frank and Julia (Seeberger) Huemmer. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Juliet June (Vendl) Huemmer who preceded him in death on May 4, 2002; sisters, Mary Ann and Eleanor; and brothers, Edward and Tom.
Surviving John is his wife, Barbara Crighton; daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Treber; son, John (Cynthia) Huemmer; stepchildren, Rachel Crighton and Ian (Lyn) Crighton; grandchildren, Mikayla, Steven & Kaitlin Treber, Johnny & Matthew Huemmer, Lilian & Charlotte Crighton and Madeleine & Robert Crighton; and a brother, Frank.
In his youth, he was a Mishawaka and National Yo-Yo Champion. He served in the Army where he taught Korean children the English language. He returned to graduate from Indiana University. He worked as a Human Resource Director at RACO until his retirement. After his retirement, he became a champion bocce ball player in Florida where he loved to spend time. He was an avid supporter of Mishawaka Baseball, ND Football, and IU Basketball. He loved supporting and watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in extracurricular activities.
The family will receive friends 4 pm-7 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN with visitation 1 hour prior at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Osceola.
