John David Hughett, 79, of Huron, ended his earthly race on March 24, 2025 at Firelands Health, Sandusky.
Born in 1946 in Middlesboro, KY to the late John and Iris (Clemons) Hughett, John lived a life of service, steadfastness, and deep love for his family.
Affectionately known as "Chip 'n Putt" on the golf course, after shooting a 105 in his first ever round, he eventually became a scratch golfer. His life was a hymn to small moments-breakfast with his buddies, daily companionship of his little dog, Bella Boo, Sunday worship with his faith family at Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, and laughter shared over a well-told story.
John never sought recognition-only to serve well with his hands, his heart, and his abiding trust in the Lord.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, "Janet Sue" (Roper) Hughett; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Beth Martinez, of Castalia; grandson, Dr. "Keither" Martinez II, of New York, NY; and granddaughter, "Jenna-bug" Martinez, of Graham, NC. He is remembered by his sisters, Della (Gary) House and Nancy (Perry) House, of London, KY, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle John.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Hughett, mother and step-father, Iris and Byron Casteel, brothers, Larry Casteel and Marie Casteel, and son, Matthew "Marty" Martinez.
