John Andrew Husar, Sr. age 94 of Derby, died peacefully on January 4, 2026 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport on September 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna Mary Kubik Husar. Mr. Husar was raised in Bridgeport and was a graduate of Harding High School. He was a proud USMC Veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the U.S. Navy Occupation Service Medal and the National Service Defense Medal. Following his military service, Mr. Husar began his 40-year career with the United Illuminating Co. as a meter reader, while simultaneously working for the Finest Supermarkets. He advanced at U.I. to become a boiler operator and the Harbor Station Power Plant of Bridgeport and retired in 1997 as a stockroom supervisor from the Fairfield, Milford and Shelton U.I. warehouses. He was a long-time resident of Stratford and Shelton, before moving to Derby 25 years ago. Mr. Husar enjoyed ballroom dancing with his late companion, Zita Mohyde Carrano. He is survived by his devoted son, John A. Husar, Jr. of Shelton, a nephew Michaeal Boyington and his wife Sadie of Monroe, ME and loyal friends, Carmella Cybart of Derby & Barbara and Bob Baroni of Shelton. In addition to his companion Zita, he was predeceased by a sister Ann Miller and his former spouse, Dorothy Kubus Husar. A springtime graveside service with full military honors will take place in the CT Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
