John "Jack" (The Wiz) Hynes, a lifelong resident of South Boston passed away on November 14th, at the age of 77 surrounded by his family. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years Janice (Billotte) Hynes. Proud and beloved father of Jacky and his wife Michelle of South Boston, Michelle and her partner John Fiore of Dorchester, Jill and her husband Patrick Kennedy of South Boston and Joey and his fiancé Sarah Popham of Pembroke. Cherished Papa to his seven grandchildren: Braeden, Brennah, Millie, Jack, Patrick, Noah and Grace.
Adored brother of Patricia O'Malley who he shared a lifelong bond with and her husband Steve of Brockton. Predeceased by his parents John and Mildred (Noonan) Hynes, his brother Bobby and his sister Mary.
Dear brother-in-law of Shirley Billotte, Diane Doyle her late husband Dan of South Boston, Peggy Cricchio and her husband Michael of Virginia, the late Cathy Billotte, the late Jimmy Billotte and his surviving wife Diane of Springhill Florida, along with countless nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great- nephews, cousins and friends.
Born and raised in South Boston, he formed lifelong friendships with Michael Kelly, George Rull and Larry Heafey, those bonds stood strong through every stage of life. To know him was to know loyalty, kindness and the simple joy of good company.
A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Beyond his service, he was known as a man of few words but a heart full of love.
Music was one of his greatest joys, and his home was forever filled with the sounds of The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffett and Toby Keith. Those songs became the backdrop of family gatherings and everyday moments alike, a soundtrack his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews grew up with and will carry in their hearts always.
Jack was an avid Boston sports fan, finding joy in every Red Sox win, every Patriots Sunday, and every Bruins and Celtics season. Cheering for his teams was another great pleasure that he enjoyed.
We will miss him more than words can ever say, but we are grateful for every moment we had together. In his honor, turn up the music, raise a glass and sing your heart out- just as he would have wanted. "Rock on Ole Boy"
