John Iverson Obituary

John Iverson

August 12, 1947 - January 2, 2026

On January 2, 2026, John died peacefully knowing how much his family and friends loved him. John Arthur Iverson lived for 78 years faithfully serving his loved ones, church, and community. Though he will be dearly missed in this world, his strong faith in Christ gave him peace.

John was born on August 12, 1947, in Eau Claire. He was the oldest of Earl and Irma Iverson's two children. In his youth, John could be found learning fabrication from his dad in the shop, working on an uncle's farm or wrestling with his Aunt Jo. John met Susan Kringle while they attended UW-Stout in Menomonie. John often joked that Sue told a friend she was going to hustle the next guy that walked in the local pool hall--and he was sure lucky he was the one! They were married at First Lutheran Church in Barron on August 15, 1970, at 8:15 pm.

After a brief time in Menomonie, they moved to the Town of Drammen north of Mondovi, and finally to the Town of Naples east of Mondovi in 1978. This is where they raised their sons, Mark, Eric, and Scot; John built his family a home, and where he spent the remainder of his life.

John worked for 38 years as a Civil Professional Engineer for Ayres & Associates in Eau Claire. He was known for his ingenuity and doing what was right for both his clients and the environment. He led the installation of one of the first poly liner landfills in Wisconsin, 7 Mile Creek.

He brought that same creativity home as he taught his boys, there isn't much that can't be created and repaired with some hard work and the right tools. His boys were his greatest hobbies. Besides inspiring a love of chasing bucks along the Buffalo River, he made sure to have an interest that matched theirs. Mark was fishing and Christmas trees, Eric was salvage cars and snowmobiling, and Scot was football and '64 Skylarks. John and Sue were great supporters of the Mondovi community. They grew and shared their Christmas trees for 35 years.

John was an active member of the Central Lutheran Church for 53 years. During his time in church council, he led the design and installation of the 1985 bell tower project. John was an active leader of the Buffalo County Fair Association for more than 30 years, including 10+ years as the Fair Board President. During his time in service, he helped build the new beer tent and spearheaded funding and construction of the south livestock barn and new restroom.

In 2001, John became a Grandpa. With 7 grandkids in 7 years, his calendar and heart were full. He couldn't be prouder of what he coined as the 'DAA BAST' 7: Daikon, Alyssa, Anna, Brett, Avery, Sydney, and Thomas. Their memories of Grandpa--supporting them at the drop of a hat, helping at the Christmas tree farm, learning to hunt deer and pheasants as a family, or just taking a walk to see the river with Belle--will live forever. He leaves behind a beautiful family legacy.

John is survived by his children, Mark (Gretchen), Eric (Kayna), and Scot (Heather), grandchildren, Daikon, Alyssa, Annabelle (Joe Berg), Brett, Avery, Sydney, and Thomas. Brother, Randy, Brothers in-law, Bruce (Mary Lou), Brian (Wanda), and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irma Iverson and his wife Sue.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4 to 6 at Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi and two hours prior to the service at Central. There will be a light snack served by the CLCW after the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Central Lutheran Church for their Building Fund for future improvements or the Buffalo County Fair for their Building a Better Fair/Capital Improvement Fund.
