John Warburton Obituary

John "Jack" Dempsey Warburton 1934- 2026 John Dempsey Warburton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Cheyenne on March 1, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born to George and Edith Warburton in Hanna, Wyoming on August 23, 1934. He graduated from Lander Valley High school in 1952 and then went on to attend Casper College until enlisting in the United States Army on March 17, 1954. Jack proudly served his country for two years during the Korean Conflict era. He attended the University of Wyoming for four years graduating with honors in 1960 with a degree in civil engineering. After college he worked for the US Forest service fighting fires until landing a job with the old Wyoming Highway Department where he climbed the ladder to State Planning Engineer retiring with more than 30 years of service.

Jack enjoyed rebuilding truck engines, collecting old cars and trucks and on his many travels around the state, he could be found searching junk yards for those missing parts to his many restoration projects. He loved his horses and dogs. He was partial to mares and he raised many colts from them. He liked to go antelope and elk hunting especially if it involved riding horses.

He approached his work and everything in life with the same dependable, steady character that defined him as a man. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and a warmth that those who knew him will never forget.

To his family, John was a cornerstone. He was caring in the way that mattered most: present, reliable, and deeply loving. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his eyes, which had a way of lighting up a room and making everyone in it feel seen.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen; his sisters Georgiana and Vonnie; his daughter, Brenda; his sons, Anthony and John; his grandchildren, Brandon, Clinton, Maranda, Lilly and Layne; and his great-grandchildren, Felix, Tiberius, Amara, and Jack.

John Dempsey Warburton leaves behind a family shaped by his example and a legacy built on love, service, and integrity. He will be profoundly missed.

In remembrance of John, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the Davis Hospice Center, or Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

A memorial service with luncheon to follow will be held March 6, 2026,12:00pm at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 3325 McCann Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001. All who knew and loved Jack are welcome to join us as we honor his life.
