John James Austin Lock was born June 25, 1928 in Glen Cove, New York, to the late Austin and Madeline Lock and Zimmerman. Madeline passed away and Austin married Pricilla Klinger who he also considered his mother.
John Lock graduated from NYC Public Schools in 1946 and then enlisted in the 102nd Engineer Battalion, 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division in the US Army, National Guard. Here is where he met his beautiful wife, Polly Tilley. They lived in Washington Heights where they had their only child, Sharon.
Afterwards they moved to Washington Township, New Jersey. John joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 15C and Gerosa Inc. where he became a shop foreman of a large crane company. While continuing his career in the Army National Guard. John retired at the rank of CW4, Chief Warrant officer in charge of maintenance.
Jack (a nickname given to him by his mother, Pricilla) and Polly left the winters of New Jersey and moved to Murrells Inlet, SC in 1990, living in Woodlake Village until 2021. Jack then moved to the Palmettos of Garden City where he was given the title of Mayor! He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Lock was preceded in death by his wife Polly Tilly.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon and her husband Robert of Pennsylvania. Jack has made many friends over the years and has always helped provide encouragement and fellowship to everyone he met.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at St. Michaels Catholic Church to be announced.
Memorial Donations maybe made to St. Michaels Catholic Church cc school fund 542 Cypress Ave. Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
