Barbara Glen Meeks, age 87, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025 at home in Surfside Beach, SC. "Bobbie" was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England.
Bobbie was the third child of five children, of Gladys and Alec Glen. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Jean Glen Vaught, Iris Glen Williams, and Peter Glen.
She is survived by her youngest brother, John Glen who lives in Norwich, Norfolk, England.
Bobbie is also survived by her husband, Henry Keith Meeks of Surfside Beach, son, Kirk Meeks of Garden City, SC, daughter, Kim Meeks Cofer of Warner Robins, GA, grandsons, Kevin Cofer and Kenneth Cofer of Warner Robins, GA, and great grandchildren, Max, Collins, Nolan, and Kaleb.
Bobbie's childhood was during World War II in England. She often told wartime stories about walking to/from school and hearing the air raid sirens go off. She had to find the nearest underground shelter and stay there for hours, until "all clear" was sounded.
Bobbie met her loving husband, Henry Keith Meeks, when he was in the USAF stationed at RAF Bentwaters. Their 69th Wedding Anniversary would have been July 21, 2025. They have two children, Kim and Kirk.
Bobbie worked different Civil Service jobs during Keith's 20-year military career. With the constant moving that goes with military life, it was difficult for the spouse to have a normal career.
In June 1974, her husband, Henry Keith Meeks, retired from the USAF. They retired in Surfside Beach, SC. "Keith" worked for the Surfside Beach Police Department and eventually became the Police Chief.
Bobbie got a job as a Pre-K Teacher's Aide at the Woodland Park Elementary School on Myrtle Beach AFB, SC. She loved working with the kids, and worked there until Myrtle Beach AFB closed in the early 90s
Bobbie never met a stranger. She talked to everyone and made friends easily. She will be missed by family and her many friends.
