Chief John John Randolph Hale USN Retired

John Randolph Hale, Chief, USN Retired, passed peacefully in his sleep, Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born on May 8, 1951, in Shawnee, OK to Coy "Jack" and Lillian Mae Alloway Hale Peltier. After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1969, John proudly served his nation from Vietnam through the Persian Gulf War from 1970 to 1992. John followed a friend home to East Brady, PA where he met his wife, Catherine Ann Colligan. They were married on July 1, 1978, and blessed with two sons, Jonathan and Joseph. Following a distinguished service, he enjoyed reading, gardening, and baseball – a lifelong time Pirates fan. Fond memories of the family's trips to Disney World, Bradenton, and St. Augustine for POW/MIA Days will forever be cherished. His career spanned the globe with many years served aboard Sturgeon and Los Angeles class submarines, the Intrepid, Emory S. Land, LaSalle, and Saratoga, among others. Following a tour in Bahrain, John based his family out of Jacksonville, initially serving as the Chief of Security at NAS Cecil Field. Among his various accomplishments, John received three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Catherine of Pittsburgh, sons – Jonathan (Erin) of South Park, PA and Joseph (Paula) of Las Vegas, NV, three beautiful grandchildren – Sophia, Alexander, and Leah, brothers – Rusty (Lana), Rob (Karen), and Rick (Cindy) of Edmond, OK, brothers- and sister-in-law Paul (Patty) Colligan and Jim (Sis) King of Kittanning, PA, and various nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Family and friends welcome at 2630 West Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, PA, 15216. Friday 5-7p.m. Interment will be private with a Christian Blessing follow the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
