John Grew up in the Hulbert and Tahlequah area. He enjoyed riding horses, raising cattle, farming and gardening.
He served in the Korean War and was decorated for his distinguished service in the United States Army.
He Married Shirley (Teague) Johnson 26 March 1956. They have four children: Glenn Johnson, Fonda (Johnson) Medlock, Donna Johnson and Johnny Johnson.
John Became and accomplished heavy equipment operator and often volunteered to train new operators. He enjoyed serving Cherokee County residents in any capacity.
John was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed singing Gospel songs. Peace in the Valley and Stroll Over Heaven were two of his favorites.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Etta-Bell Johnson, wife Shirley Johnson, son Glenn Johnson, Daughters: Fonda (Johnson) Medlock and Donna Johnson.
Son-In-law, Mike Medlock
Brothers: Edgar Johnson and Eugene Johnson.
Sisters: Ella Bruce, Thelma Steeley and Rita Harris.
John is Survived by son: Johnny Johnson
Daughter-in-law: Kathy Johnson
Grandkids: Dell and Elisha Medlock, David Medlock, Rachell and Zack Frie, Aaron and Tiffany Johnson, Travis and Hanna Johnson, Tristan and Kabria Johnson and Trey Johnson.
Great Grandkids: Cheyenne Medlock, Makayla Johnson, Lyric Lewis, Renzor Lewis, Gibson Peters and Ledger Johnson.
John leaves behind loving friends and family as he goes to reunite and rest with his Lord and Savior.
