John Charles Kapetanis

John Charles Kapetanis, 66, born in Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away on September 9th, 2024 at Riverside Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
John is preceded in death by his parents, mother Irene Marsh and father Stratis Kapetanis, his mother in law, Myrtle and father in law, Boyd (Teeny) Soles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cindy Kapetanis, his children, Jeanna Plant (Hutson), Andrew Kapetanis, Benjamin Bonomo, and Justin Bonomo (Paloma), his siblings, Bess Kapetanis, Nick Kapetanis (Annie), and his grandchildren, Tatiana (Jacob),Emma, Sophie, Olivia, and Rowan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he cherished deeply.
A true patriot, John was happy to serve his country as a Lieutenant with the City of Alexandria's Sheriff's Department. After retirement in 2013, he and Cindy moved to Yorktown to be closer to family.
John was best known for his sense of humor and quick wit, always able to make a friend wherever he went.
John was very charitable, donating to various causes throughout his life, the most near and dear to his heart being the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He volunteered yearly for the Special Olympics, where he incidentally won his beloved Harley Davidson.
John loved nature walks with his dogs, riding his Harley, and anything to do with history, especially American history.
John and Cindy spent most weekends together exploring new towns, restaurants, and shops.
The family would like to thank their wonderful neighbors and friends for their love and support, especially over the last five years.
The family would also like to thank Dr. George J. Kannarkat and his medical staff for the excellent care given to John. John was willing to work with Dr. K to try experimental treatments that will hopefully help cancer patients in the future.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 26th, 2024 at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, Virginia with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation to the American Cancer Society or ALS.
