Obituary

Brother John Edward Kendrix, a humble, compassionate, and determined Christian, was born May 23, 1937, His parents were John Henry Kendrix and Tensie Clay. He was born in Columbia, La. Brother John later moved to Vallejo, CA, where he resided until his death.

Brother John was baptized at the MacDonald Avenue Church of Christ a faithful servant of God, he served as a deacon and financial officer for over forty years. Brother John's responsibility and dedication to the church family was unwavering. In 1955, Brother John enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served as an Aircraft Mechanic Specialist until he was honorably discharged on July 26, 1963. In 1962, Brother John went to work for

United Grocery, where he started as a loader and was later promoted as the first black driver. Brother John was employed with United Grocery for thirty-four years until his retirement from there in 1996. After his retirement with United Grocery he went to work for Vallejo (Soltrans) Transit for two years.

Brother John departed this life on August 22, 2025, and was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Kendrix; his great-grandmother, Susie Smith; his sister Annie Carmans, brother Andrew Kendrix; grandson Noah Kendrix; his father John Henry Kendrix, and Mother Tensie Clay. Brother John leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Jay Kendrix(Chandra), Hercules, CA; stepdaughters, Victoria Thomas and Shontane Adams (CA); step grandchildren, Heireyona McElroy, Emoni Slaton and Amelia Harris (CA). A host of nieces, nephews,

other relatives, friends, and his beloved MacDonald Avenue church family.
