John J. Keohane

1942 – 2026

John Keohane age 83, of Havertown died peacefully on January 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents James Paul and Nora (nee McGowan) Keohane. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine B. (nee McGarvey), daughter Tara (Jonathan) Scherf, son John P. Keohane, three grandchildren; Fiona Scherf, Bronwyn Scherf and Ryan Keohane.

On 25 July 1942, John was born to two loving parents (Jim and Nora) in Philadelphia. When he was a young child, he moved to Havertown and attended Sacred Heart School. From Sacred Heart, he attended Monsignor Bonner High School where he graduated and pursued his higher education at West Chester University. With a love for teaching others, John started off his career as a teacher. Quickly realizing that this profession would not afford him with the life necessary to support the family that he desired, he took the Civil Service exam and accepted employment with the United States Postal Service (USPS). Knowing the conflict brewing in Vietnam, he wanted to do his part to support his country and signed up for the United States Naval Reserves. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life (Catherine) in Upper Darby at the Shamrock Club. He married his soulmate in September of 1974 and welcomed his first child – a beautiful daughter in the winter of 1976. In the summer of 1979, he then welcomed a son into this world. John retired from the USPS in 2000 and embarked upon a career as a law firm assistant. Shortly thereafter, he fully retired from the workforce. In 2004 he welcomed his first granddaughter with his second in 2007. In 2008 he welcomed his first and only grandson. John spent the majority of his retirement doing what he loved most – gardening and spending time with his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday, January 31, 2026, 9:30am-10:45am at Sacred Heart Church, 105 Wilson Ave, Havertown, PA 19083 where his Funeral Mass will follow at 11am.
