John George Kepros

1941 - 2026/ In Loving Memory

Salt Lake City, UT-John George Kepros, 85, passed away peacefully to the lord in his sleep on January 15th, 2026, at The Ridge Memory Care facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. John was born January 6th, 1941in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Nicholas Kepros and Maria Kepros. John was proceeded in death by his father, mother, oldest brother (Nicholas Kepros), and a dear partner (Daye Abbott). John was survived by his older brother (Peter George Kepros).

John was married to Karen Sue Scholl in September of 1994, then Divorced July of 1997. Later in life John reconnected with a dear friend and partner Daye Abbott. He spent many years with her and cherished her company until her passing in October of 2022. During his time spent with Daye, John gained the love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. After Daye's passing her grandson Gregg Weber, wife Martie Herrera, and their children continued caring for John until his passing.

John received a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Utah in 1963, then achieved the accomplishment of becoming a Doctor of Philosophy in Physics in 1971. John had an extensive career in the fields of physics, chemistry, engineering, and teaching. John held many positions as a researcher in these fields, some with The University of Utah, and others with Hercules Inc., Moton Thiokol, General Dynamic- Conair, and finally retiring with Lockheed Missile & Space company to take care of his mother Maria Kepros until her passing in December of 1995.

John was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church; he was an active member in choir and lead as a Cantor. He led tours at the Greek festivals held by the Holy Trinity church and even helped with food preparation at the festivals. John was an avid Utes fan, he enjoyed watching games with his friend with good pizza and a beer.

John was always happy to have friends and family around, especially for meals. He was always insistent on leading everyone in prayer for any get togethers. John was loved and will be missed by many, Funeral services will be held for friends and family Tuesday January 20th, 2026, at Holy Trinity church in Salt Lake City (279 South 300 West) at 11:00AM, followed by interment at Mount Olivet cemetery.

We were next door neighbors to Maria Kepros for twelve years and loved her dearly. We became acquainted with John through Maria. He was always so friendly to us. We´re sorry to read about his passing, but know he is once again with his parents, brother Nick and with Daye. Our condolences,
