John Gordon Knaack, 83, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Greendale, Wisconsin.
John was born on August 12, 1942, in Milwaukee to Gordon and Angeline (Donner) Knaack. He grew up the oldest brother to Ken, Jim, and Tom.
Early in life, John served two years in the United States Army Reserve. John built a life centered on family, hard work, and simple pleasures. He settled down in Greendale and worked at Clark Oil in technology, which was his favorite job. Later in life, John made his home in Germantown, where he spent much of his professional life at West Bend Mutual, working faithfully until his retirement in May 2001. In retirement, he enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, AL, where he enjoyed the sun and beach life.
John loved golfing and rarely passed up the opportunity to play a round. He also enjoyed card games, especially sheepshead and cribbage, where his competitive spirit and quick wit were always on display. He valued friendship, routine, and the comfort of familiar places.
In the final year of his life, John returned to Greendale, where he resided in an assisted living facility. John will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to providing for his family, and the many quiet ways he showed he cared. He leaves behind a legacy of enduring love, perseverance, and a devoted family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Jim and Tom. He was a cherished husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth Knaack. His children: Robert (Tara McPherson) Knaack and their son Dexter Knaack; David (Jenni) Knaack and their children Elijah (Halle) Knaack and Emily (Connor) MacPherson, and great-granddaughter Aspen MacPherson; and Erik (Christina) Wahlen and their children Jack Wahlen, Becca Wahlen, and Ana Wahlen. He is survived by his brother Ken (Jean) Knaack and former spouse of Katherine Knaack. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished the time spent watching them grow.
Celebration of life will be on March 5th, 2026 from 9:30-11:30am at Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center (13037 W. Capitol Drive Brookfield, WI). Military Honors and eulogy service to take place at 11:30 AM with a reception to follow.
