John Knapp

John Knapp, 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Courtyard Luxury Senior Living in Clinton, New Jersey.

Born on May 21, 1934, in Kleinbetschkerek, Romania, John was the son of the late Lambert and Mary (Neuman) Knapp. In 1956, he immigrated to the United States and made his home in New Brunswick before later settling in Somerset. Following his retirement, John enjoyed over 30 years of life in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania.

John began his career at Paulus Dairy in New Brunswick and later worked at Jacka Ham in Dayton as a machine operator. He went on to spend many years with Air Products and Chemicals in Dayton as a machinist maintenance technician. Dedicated and hardworking, John took pride in his craft.

John was a former parishioner of St. Matthias Church. He also served as President of the German American Club in New Brunswick and was an active member of the Aurora Singing Society. Outside of his work and community involvement, John found joy in bird watching, gardening, and spending time in nature. He was also an avid reader who loved traveling with his family.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruth Knapp, and his son, Michael Knapp.

He is survived by his sons, John Knapp and Frank Knapp; his daughters, Doris Lucia and her husband Jim, Heidi Latanzio and her husband AJ, and Susan Walsh; his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Knapp; his brother, Peter Knapp and his wife Connie; his sisters, Elizabeth Teutsch and Mary Thomas and her husband Donald. John was also the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and he will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
