Robert David Grinthal

Robert David Grinthal, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Regency Heritage Rehabilitation Center in Somerset, New Jersey.

Robert was born on June 19, 1926, in Weehawken, New Jersey, to the late Robert and Josephine (Cappelletti) Grinthal. Robert grew up in West New York, New Jersey and later lived in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and Warwick, New York, before settling in Somerset eight years ago.

Robert, known to family and friends as "Bob", proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, he attended Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in Metallurgy. He went on to enjoy a long and successful career as a metallurgist with several small companies in the heavy metals industry.

A man of strong faith, Bob was a devoted parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Over the years in his leisure time, he enjoyed bowling and had a deep love for woodworking, a hobby that reflected his appreciation of craftsmanship and the satisfaction of working with his hands. Above all else in life, his most treasured experiences revolved around his family.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of seventy years, Agnes (Young) Grinthal. He was a devoted father to his sons, Robert William Grinthal and his wife Nikki, Paul David Grinthal, and Andrew Gustave Grinthal and his wife Linda; and his daughters, Mary Frances Fiorenza and her husband John, Laura Ann Talamo and her husband Joseph, and Jennifer Marie Grinthal. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren: Cody, Benjamin, Christopher, Michael, Daniel, John, Isabella, Stephanie, Ashley, John, Joseph, Robert, and Christopher; and his eight great-grandchildren, Waylon, Callen, Bryn, Rosie, Walker, Kaila, Adria and Nico.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday February 8th, from 2:00PM to 4:00 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 9:45 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Matthias Church. Burial will follow the Mass at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Somerset a short distance away.
