John David Korte, 78, of New Haven, passed away on October 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Fort Wayne to the late John A. and Verona (Klopfenstein) Korte. Born with a dedication to hard work and a love for those around him, JD proudly served as the second generation in the family business, Home Lumber, Inc., from 1971 until his retirement in 2010. For nearly 40 years, Home Lumber was not just a business for him, it was a labor of love, and the people he worked alongside were among his greatest joys. JD was a man of deep faith, devoted to the Lord, and he cherished his family above all else. He found joy in spending time outdoors, where he indulged in hunting, fishing, and escaping to his cherished cabin in Grayling, MI, creating countless memories over the years. His greatest pride and happiness came from his six grandchildren, whom he adored and watched grow, as well as the blessing of having his sons and grandkids live next door to him on the family farm, he held dear. Sunday dinners were a tradition in JD's home, where the noise of family gathered together was music to his ears. He loved to cook and share meals, creating an atmosphere filled with love, laughter, and togetherness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen (Geiger) Korte; sons, Brent (Nicole) Korte, and Eric (Lisa) Korte; brother, Alan (Sue) Korte; grandchildren, Garrett (Mackenzie), Logan, Lauren, Landin, Alex, and Hayden Korte. JD's life will be celebrated with a gathering in his honor on Sunday, October 27th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Home Lumber, Inc., 2101 Lincoln HWY E, New Haven, IN 46774. Friends and family are invited to come together over food and drink to share in the many wonderful memories of JD. His legacy of faith, family, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Preferred memorials are to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, and Parkview Hospice.
