John Kosarowich Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 2, 2023.
John (Jackie) T. Kosarowich, age 69, of Howell, NJ, passed away suddenly on February, 27, 2023. He was born in Bayonne NJ, on January 13, 1954, the son of the late John and Augusta (Shmidt) Kosarowich.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna M. Kosarowich (Halsey); and son, John T. Kosarowich Jr. with daughter in law, Aviva; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Annmarie, John, Nina, and Shira; as well as a 6th granddaughter on the way; his sister, Karen; two nieces, Aly and Christine; the mother of his children and lifelong "partner in crime", Julia Sommers; three "adopted" children, Todd, Christopher (Jager), and Julia; numerous grand animals; as well as many other close family and friends.
Throughout his life John dabbled in numerous jobs and business ventures, from owning and running his own jean store in his 20's, to working as a chef, owning a dry cleaner shop, developing photos, working in Acme just to name a few. His true passion was turning others' trash into not only treasure, but also profit, which earned him the nickname "Dumpster John" throughout the flea market community as well as friends he made along the way. John had many friends, no matter what, no matter where, he could strike up a conversation with anyone. Many friends became like family, no matter what, if someone was in need John stepped up and helped them out. John touched many lives in many ways. John had his quirks as anyone does but that's what made him special. Under it all, John was a highly intelligent man in an almost Einstein kind of way. Sometimes his views would seem totally crazy until one day you realized what he said was on point. John had a huge sense of humor and could make you laugh even in the saddest of times. His gruff exterior hid a teddy bear of a man, even if he didn't outright show "normal" emotion, you would always know he cared.
John had many hobbies including surfing, kayaking, sailing, collecting, and more. He had lots of ideas, some real some a little not so serious, like creating a "boatel" with all his boats or making a million by selling his guppies for $1 each, "I'm going to have a million guppies and sell them for a dollar each then I will be a millionaire". Ultimately, his end goal was to retire to Georgia. John truly left a mark on many lives and will truly be loved and missed by all.
John's viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 4pm to 8pm, at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services in Toms River NJ.
