John Clarence Lair passed away in the early morning hours of September 15th, 2024, from complications from COPD and heart failure with his devoted wife of 64 years and daughter by his side. John was born on December 8th, 1937, to Joe Coleman Lair and Hazel Elizabeth Hancock Lair in Tyler Texas. He was a loving Son, Husband, Father, and Grandfather who deeply loved God, his family, his country, Texas, and the game of golf. John went to College at Texas Tech University and after being honorably discharged as an expert marksman from the United States Marines he forged a long and successful career in retail. He was a mens clothing buyer for several prominent department stores, opened and operated a chain of Ski Shops called The Maverick Ski Stores (named after Johns nature), was a district manager for a chain of clothing stores and ended his career on the other side of the desk in sales. John was an active sportsman for much of his life playing tennis or golf when weather permitted, and he loved rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. As a Marine and an American he appreciated and collected historically significant rifles and pistols for their contributions to civilization, law and order, and freedom. John took great joy in being a Grandfather and quite simply adored both of his Grandkids Taylor and Tanner for whom the feeling was mutual.
John is survived by his loving wife Jeane T. Lair of Dallas Texas, his Daughter Tracy Lanier and his son-in-law Doug Lanier of Cumming Georgia, and his Grandaughter Taylor Lanier of Atlanta Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his parents and Grandson Tanner.
John will be especially remembered as a very honorable and honest person with a great but slightly sarcastic sense of humor. We will love and miss him dearly and he will live on in our hearts and memories for the rest of our lives and through our faith we await the time when we will be reunited again.
A funeral Mass will be held for John at St. Monicas Catholic Church 9933 Midway Rd. Dallas, Texas at 11:00 on September the 30th.
