Sturbridge: John P. Lango, 75, of Cedar St., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 20th, with his wife and sister by his side.
John leaves his wife of 36 years, Edwina (McNally) Lango; his sister, Susan M. Lango of Sturbridge; his sister-in-law, Catherine Montigny and her husband and his brother-in-law, Bryant Montigny of Southbridge; his sister-in-law, Patricia McNally of Maine; his uncle, Philip Kozyra of Bedford, NH; his niece, Erin Streibig and her husband Christopher of Florida and their children, Allison and Bridget; two close cousins, Paul Lango of Dudley and Kathy Roehrs of Webster, along with several cousins and many close friends. He also leaves his beloved dog and constant companion, Lexi. John was born in Southbridge the son of the late Norbert F. and Janet S. (Kozyra) Lango. He was a graduate of Southbridge High School and was a star on the school's football team earning him the nickname of 'the Polish Riffle'. John went on to Marianapolis Prep School in Thompson, CT and later attended Tampa University and UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture.
John was a self-employed landscaper for over 30 years. He later was the maintenance and grounds manager for St. John Paul II Parish in Southbridge before retiring several years ago. John loved sports and was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan. He also loved to spend time in Maine.
His family would like to thank the staff of the Overlook Hospice, Aveanna Home Health and Deb Butler for all of the care and compassion they gave to John.
A funeral Mass for John will be held on Friday, May 23rd, at 10:00am in St. Anne Church, 16 Church St., Sturbridge. Burial will follow in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or to St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish, 16 Church St., Fiskdale, MA 01518.
