Southbridge: Candace J. (Chor) Barrus, 76, of Langlois Ave., passed away on February 4th at her home, after a brief illness.

She leaves her son, John P. Barrus and his longtime companion Diane LeBrun of Deerfield, NH; her loving daughter, Patricia L. MacNeil and her longtime companion Bernie Guasp of Southbridge; her brother, Jack Chor and his wife DeeDee of Jenson Beach, FL; sister, Lori Bennett and her husband Bob of Plymouth; Grandchildren, Joseph A. MacNeil, Joseph C. Barrus, Katelyn T. MacNeil, Joshua P. MacNeil, Danielle J. Croteau, Ashlee R. Barrus, Brittany L. Murphy, Marcus A. Guasp, Nicholas J. Guasp, Letrice C. Ford, and Amy M. Beauchamp, as well as 17 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jon I. Barrus February of 2025. She was also predeceased by her sister, Deborah Canniff.

Candace was born in Weymouth, MA, the daughter of John Anthony and June A. (Newcomb) Chor.

Candace was a strong, independent, beautiful, loving, and as sweet as her name "Candy".

Her life was dedicated to her husband and her children, caring for them and raising them. She would take her family on camping trips. Uniting with friends to share the experience. Her family grew up camping, which passed down to the next generation.

Candace would take a yearly trip to the Saco River with family and friends. The group over the 15 years grew larger and enjoyed kayaking, swimming, and especially music and dancing; Candace and her husband Jon were confident and fun square dance callers.

She cared for the people around her and always made sure to take care of herself as well.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 12th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Services 700 Worcester St, Southbridge, MA 01550.
