John Lanting Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - Bubb Chapel on Jan. 12, 2026.
John W. "Jack" Lanting passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Mishawaka, IN. Born on January 16, 1938, in Chicago, IL, Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He lived a full life, marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a passion for adventure and sports.
Jack's formative years were spent at Chicago Vocational High School, where he graduated in the class of 1956. After high school, he proudly served his nation as a United States Marine, a period which instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and camaraderie. Following his military service, Jack dedicated 26 years as a union painter for Cook County in Illinois. His strong work ethic and friendly disposition made him well-respected among his peers and colleagues.
In 1993, Jack married the love of his life, Marcia (Fulton) Lanting, in a vibrant ceremony in Las Vegas, NV. Their union was a testament to companionship and mutual admiration, as they embarked on numerous journeys, exploring every continent together with the exception of Africa.
Jack was preceded by his parents, Peter and Helen (Madderom) Lanting, and his cherished son, David Lanting. His memory will live on through his devoted wife, Marcia; his sons, Paul (Dawn) and Bryan Lanting; stepdaughters, Kristin Swenson and Adrianne (Gilbert) Swenson; his loving grandchildren, Caitlyn (Nick), Darien, Tyler, and Cameron(Ashley); great-grandchildren, Adalana and Bellamy; step-grandchildren, Evan, Gabrielle, and Myles; and his brothers, Henry (Cheryl) and Michael (Linda) Lanting.
An ardent sports fan, Jack's enthusiasm for the Chicago Cubs was contagious. He reveled in the camaraderie found at the American Legion, often sharing stories and laughter with fellow veterans. His love for golf was more than just a hobby; it was a way to challenge himself and enjoy the outdoors. Jack's spirit of exploration was unmatched, whether touring the cobblestone streets of Europe or the vast landscapes of Australia. His travels enriched his perspective and deepened his gratitude for the world's diverse cultures and beauty.
