John P. Lewis, age 71, of Hanover, formerly of Westminster, MD, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with cancer on January 27, 2026.

John was born in Forest Hill, MD on September 1, 1954 and was the son of Gertrude (Brinegar) Hill and the late Okey L. Lewis, Sr. John was a car lover through and through and could almost always be found in his garage working on and tinkering with his cars. His favorite car was his 1966 Blue Chevelle, which he was known for, along with other classic cars. He was awarded many trophies for his cars which he proudly displayed. He also enjoyed attending car shows in multiple states. John was known by many people as the "Burnout King." For more than 50 years John was involved in many car clubs. Most recently being the NFC Cruisers. He also enjoyed his getaways to Ocean City, MD with his friends. John's most loyal companion in life was his dog, Bare. Later in life, he worked alongside his mother, stepfather, and brother in their family business. John was also a member of the New Oxford Social Club, Hanover Moose, and Hanover VFW.

John is survived by his mother Gertrude "Gertie" Hill (Ted); his loving daughter Stacey M. Lewis-Bittinger (Steve Henry); his grandchildren Scott, Lauren, Andrew, Kate, and Caden; his great-grandchildren Greyson and Oliver; his siblings Gene Null (Linda), Chris Null, Cynthia Lewis, Ruth Ann Lewis, and David Null (Melissa); his nieces Haley, Samantha, and Bree Null; and his great-nephew Bryson. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles. John was preceded in death by his daughter Jamie S. Lewis; and his siblings Okey Lewis, Jr., James "Bobby" Lewis, and Shawn Null.

John is also survived by his companion Gloria Jean Hansford; her daughter Coby Bunty (Mike); and their three children; and nine grandchildren.

A Gathering of family and friends in celebration of John's life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344. A time of sharing memories will begin at 5:30PM.
