John Joseph Litel, 68, of Noblesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Born on July 11, 1957, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cecelia (Kupferschmidt) Litel.

John spent 36 years as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Working for the USPS wasn’t just a job, it was a family tradition. John followed in the footsteps of his parents and his paternal grandfather, who famously was the last horse-drawn letter carrier in Indianapolis. John attended Butler University and IUPUI, where he explored his interests in Accounting, Computer Programming, and Political Science.

John lived life with enthusiasm and loyalty—to his family, his friends, and his favorite teams. In his younger years, he loved dirt bike racing and never lost his passion for motorsports, attending the Indianapolis 500 every year from the age of 12. He treasured time spent playing poker with his retired work buddies and friends, reading a good book, and staying active with pickleball. A devoted Indianapolis Colts fan, John proudly held season tickets for many years and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on. He also found joy in singing in the church choir.

John’s heart belonged to his family. He dearly loved his fur-babies, but nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Gampy.” Whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments, he made them feel deeply loved.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Robin (Day) Litel; daughter, Kelley (Brett) Smith; son, Sean Litel; grandchildren, Nadya, Landon, Wyatt, and Grayson; sister, Liz (Mark) Horwitz; brother, Jim (Mary) Litel; brothers-in-law, Ron (Paty) Day, Tim (Sarah) Day, Gil (Julia) Hoffer, and Jeff Clark; sister-in-law, Kara (Matt) Spurlock; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

John will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, PO Box 681405, Indianapolis, IN 46268-1405 (www.cancer.org/about-us/local/indiana.html); or American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 (www.heart.org).
