John Fredrick "Fred" Loman, age 84, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born in Bowlegs, Oklahoma, to Elzie Ray and Minnie Mae Loman, the third of five children.
He attended high school in Kansas City and college at what is now the University of Central Missouri. Fred served eight years in the United States Coast Guard before beginning his professional career, which included being a master farrier, firefighter and law enforcement officer at the local, state and federal levels. He followed in his father's footsteps by earning his pilot's license and becoming a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was a lifelong learner and his interests ranged from farming to researching his extended family's genealogy to classical literature. It was Fred's love of farming and his family heritage that drew him to the Lake of the Ozarks area. Fred firmly believed his word was his bond and his actions spoke for him. He took great pride in a job well done and held a love for and belief in God, beginning with his baptism at age thirteen alongside his brother, Dick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over fifty years, Judy Loman; sons, Ray and Christopher and siblings, William "Bill", Richard "Dick" and Barbara Robinson.
He is survived by his sister, Phyllis McCalmon; son, Lee Ray; daughters, Jennifer Loman and Barbara Cabrera; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Among Fred's closest and most loyal friends were Chuck and Louella Pryor and their entire family, without whom the last years of his life would not have been so fulfilling.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5th, in Gott Cemetery near Ulman in Miller County.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
