John W. Long, born January 3, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at the age of 78. A proud veteran, John honorably served his country in the United States Navy before dedicating his career to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he served as a Supervisory Special Agent. His life was defined by duty, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.
John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Liz Long (Poe), with whom he built a lifetime of love and cherished memories. He had two children, John Long Jr. and Timothy Long, who were his pride and joy. His legacy continues through his grandchildren-Thomas John, Katie, and Chelsea-as well as his great-grandson, Alexander, whom he adored.
Born to George and Waneta Long, John carried forward the values of hard work, resilience, and kindness instilled in him by his parents. He leaves behind not only a loving family but also a legacy of service and honor that will be remembered by all who knew him.
John's family and friends will forever cherish his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his contributions to both his family and country will never be forgotten.
He will be interred at Florida National Cemetery on January 22nd at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a veterans' organization in his memory.
