John Lorentz

John Lorentz, 87, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
John was born on January 12, 1938, in Peoria to Florence A. (Swords) and John H. Lorentz, Jr.
He married Sharon K. Hartman on November 4, 1967, and they were married until her passing in
2013. He is survived by his daughter, Michele (David) Mooney.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years before receiving an
honorable discharge. He later dedicated 30 years of hard work to Caterpillar, retiring in 1997.
John enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs,
and Bradley Braves, rarely missing a game if he could help it. He enjoyed bowling and was
especially proud of the perfect games he bowled over the years. He also enjoyed taking his
Oldsmobile Cutlass to car shows, where he could admire classic cars and share stories with
fellow enthusiasts. In recent years, he looked forward to weekly card games and companionship
with close friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; his parents; and his siblings, Lester and Patsy.
A private inurnment will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois CancerCare Foundation or
Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
