Mal Lorentz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory - Peachtree Corners Chapel on Jan. 9, 2026.
Mal Lorentz, 84, passed peacefully to his eternal home on January 7, 2026. He was born on March 11, 1941, in Peoria, Illinois, to the late Marguerite Bailey and Charles W. Lorentz.
Mal Lorentz loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed reading, watching classic Westerns, and traveling especially to Jamaica and St. Lucia. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan and a devoted baseball mentor and coach who loved sharing the game with others. He proudly coached his daughters, Shannon and Stefanie, and his son, Bubba, at Shorty Howell Park in Duluth, Georgia, leaving a lasting mark on everyone he worked with.
Mal was a proud United States Army veteran who served as an E4, a time in his life that shaped his strong sense of duty and the deep value he placed on friendship and loyalty. In 1985, he married the love of his life, Earline Guest. Their 24 years together were filled with love and devotion, and after her passing in 2009, he spoke of her often, always with great affection.
As a father of four, Mal taught his children kindness, perseverance, and how to enjoy life's adventures. He was incredibly proud of his ten grandchildren and found his greatest joy in watching them grow and celebrating their accomplishments. He also cherished time spent playing Texas Hold'em with his best friend Freddy and his friends at the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Lorentz of Duluth, Georgia; his son, Bubba Lorentz (Kelly) of Cumming, Georgia; his stepdaughter, Stefanie Adams Meers (Bryan) of Braselton, Georgia; his stepdaughter, Bridget Teague of Woodstock, Georgia; and his beloved partner, Ethel Young of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Mal was the proud grandfather of Brianna McGee, Makenzie Woodham, Chandler Lorentz, Kailin Meers, Caleb Flynt, Holden Meers, Aaron Flynt, Cameron Flynt, and Jackson Lorentz, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Earline Guest Lorentz; his sister, Luanne Lorentz Koiester; and his grandson, Savon Roberts.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. A graveside burial will follow.
