Janet Krafka "Fritz" Rohrer passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2026 at 91 years of age. Fritz lived a life full of family, faith and friendships. Christened Janet, she earned her nickname Fritz from her father who shortened it from Snickelfritz – a term of endearment for an energetic, curious child. The name stuck and embodied Fritz's lively personality throughout her life.
Fritz graduated from Ottumwa High School and earned her degree in elementary education from Wartburg College. She began her teaching career in Clarion, Iowa, where she met the love of her life, Ed Rohrer. She enjoyed telling the story of how Ed first saw her picture in the Clarion newspaper, which introduced the new single teachers to the community. He was captivated by her charm, and they were soon married and raising their family of two daughters, Lisa and Renee, of whom they were endlessly proud.
Ed's career eventually took the family to Chicago where they made lifelong friends, enjoying vacations along the East Coast beaches and lakes well into their senior years. After five years in Chicago, Fritz and Ed moved to Atlanta where they established deep roots, continued to raise their girls and expanded their ever-growing circle of friends. Fritz loved her years teaching at Montclair Elementary and made fast friends with the other teachers. She led Girl Scout camping trips, took Fifth Graders to Washington, DC and proudly coached many a student through memorizing "We Give Thanks," a Thanksgiving blessing. After retiring with 30 years of teaching experience, Fritz went on to a second career working in the Dekalb County Board of Education office and later closed out her working years behind the counter at Consignment Furniture Depot.
Fritz treasured time with her family, especially days spent at Lake Hartwell floating in the water, riding in the boat, and playing board games until past everyone's bedtime. As most know, Fritz was a faithful fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and regularly attended games for over 50 years. Football season was her favorite and even when she was no longer attending games, she juggled a complicated television schedule of SEC, Iowa State, and even Wartburg football games.
Fritz entered her 90s with as much energy and sense of adventure as she lived her previous decades. Wearing a green "Birthday Girl" banner, she celebrated her 90th birthday with her daughters and grandchildren floating through the skies of Iowa in a hot air balloon.
Fritz was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Ed, and is survived by her daughters Lisa Brown and Renee Bomar (Ken); her grandchildren Amanda Brown, Pete Brown, Mia Bomar, Parker and Sarah Bomar and her great-granddaughter, Alice. Fritz is also survived by her beloved black cat, Kitty.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Gloria and Binta, for their kindness, dedication, and compassion.
Christ the King Lutheran Church in Peachtree Corners was Fritz's church home and source of faithful support and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to the church.
