John Loria Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home - Farmington on Oct. 29, 2025.
In Loving Memory of John David Loria, Sr.

John D. Loria, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27th, 2025, surrounded by his family.

John was a devoted husband of 38 years to his treasured wife, Donna – the love of his life and his constant companion. He was a loving and selfless father to four children, Salvatore (Briana) Loria, Maria Loria, John (Samantha) Loria and Teresa (Michael) O'Donohue. He was an adoring "Papa" to 2 grandchildren, Liliana and Rosalia, who were his pride and joy. He had an affinity and love for animals, especially for his adored family pets, Luigi and Chewie, as well as his "granddog," Rocco. John is survived by his dear sister, Kim (Matt) Loria Sklar; his brother-in-law, Gerry Pachla; and his cherished sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Daniel, Susie (Richard) Robell, and Linda (James) Bauters. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore and June; stepmother, Joyce; sister, Diane; his beloved parents-in-law, Mary (Domenica) and Philip Patanis; dear brothers-in-law, Tom and Chuck; and many other loved ones who welcomed him with open arms into God's kingdom.

John was endlessly generous and deeply devoted to his community, always lending a hand to anyone in need. Whether through acts of service, quiet kindness, or simple encouragement, he had a way of lifting spirits wherever he went. Proud of his Italian heritage, John carried on cherished traditions – from Sunday dinners and roasted peppers to bocce games and pinochle nights. He loved his faith, his family, and the joy of connection – and he never missed an opportunity to share a laugh, offer advice, or tell a great story.

A funeral Mass celebrating John's life will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 9:30 am (in state 9:00 am), at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington, MI. John will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum in Southfield, MI at a later date, privately.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions are suggested to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
