June 16, 1935 - August 22, 2023
John "Doug" Lovings, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by loving family.
A 2 p.m. funeral service will take place on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at New Bessemer Baptist Church with Reverend Bud Parrish officiating.
Doug was born June 16, 1935, to the late Joseph Elijah Lovings and Lucille Wrightenberry Lovings. He was a long-time member at New Bessemer Baptist Church. Doug loved to tell his stories and was fascinated with aircrafts and space. He loved parachuting and had over 300 jumps. He also loved fishing and playing golf.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lucille as well as brothers Norman and Conrad. He is survived by his loving wife Claudia, children John William Lovings, Jr.(Mandy), Cheryl Green(Chuck), Debra Lovings, Keith Lovings(Karen), sister Jean Glass(Jack), grandchildren John Lovings(Candace), Josh Lovings(Heather), Joey Lovings(Pricilla), Jacob Lovings(Melanie), Jesse Lovings, Lori Stallings, Leslie Hurley(Brian), Kristy Marshall(Samaly), Dustin Marshall(Jade), Haley Lovings, Christian Maness and 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Forbis & Dick N. Elm Street Chapel.
The Lovings family would like to send a special thank you to gentiva Hospice, Kimberly Lloyd, RN, Faline Doolin and all other caregivers, as well as Chaplains Jeanette and Darnell.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Bessemer Baptist church at 4115 Hines Chapel Rd, McLeansville, NC 27301 or gentiva Hospice at 2730 Tucker St #600, Burlington, NC 27215.

Dear Claudia and family: I am so very sorry to hear of Doug´s passing. I have so many wonderful memories from when we all lived on Foushee St. One of my best memories is going to the lake with y´all and Doug trying to teach me to water ski. I swallowed enough water that day to float a boat but he kept going until I finally got my balance and was able to get up on the skis. That was so much fun. All of you are in my prayers and I know that he is smiling that wonderful smile of his right now as he meets our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
