John was the most generous man I ever met. He helped me grow and dragged me through times I thought were impossible to escape. He was one of the few that was proud of serving his country, and showed those around him how to be a true American. He was dedicated to his country, his community, and his family. He will forever hold a place in my heart as my grandfather, mentor, father, and friend.

I hadn't spoken to this man in 50+ years and the last time I saw him was around 35 years ago, and yet I will mourn his loss. He gave me the ultimate gift in this life and I was never able to thank him properly. He had great potential (in my opinion) and I wonder why a full obituary hasn't been posted describing his life, his interests, his joy, his sorrows and his legacy.
