York, ME – John A. Lyczak, age 76, of York, ME, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025 at his home. For 51 years, he was the beloved husband of Sandra L. (Roche) Lyczak.

He was born in Portsmouth, NH on June 8, 1949, son of the late Alfred & Dorothy (Weeks) Lyczak.

John served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter crew chief until his honorable discharge in 1970. Prior to his retirement, he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for more than 25 years.

Two hobbies that brought John great joy were flying small-engine airplanes and gardening at the beautiful home he designed and built. He also had a great passion for trains and for animals. Most years of his life were spent with a rescued dog by his side. John and Sandra were most appreciative of, and enjoyed spending time with, the wonderful community of friends in their close-knit neighborhood.

Besides his wife, Sandra, he is survived by his son, Michael and his wife; stepchildren Laurie, William, and Wendy and their spouses; seven grandchildren, Kiara, Ethan, Taylor, Emily, Megan, Jacob and Wyatt; a sister, Deborah and her husband; a sister-in-law, Anne; also, several cousins, nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard.

SERVICES – A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Central Cemetery, 20 Central Rd., Rye, NH. Floral arrangements may be sent in care of the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
