It is with profound love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Christopher Walter Macaras, lovingly known to most as JC, who left this world peacefully on November 23, 2025, with his family by his side.

Born on May 19, 1978, JC grew up with a steady, thoughtful nature and a strong imagination. As a child, he loved playing soldier and immersing himself in the adventures he created. That early love of pretending to be a protector grew into a true calling in his adult life.

While still in high school, JC proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a Military Police Officer. During his Army years, many knew him simply as "Mac," a name spoken with respect and camaraderie. His service became a defining chapter of his life, shaping his sense of duty, loyalty, and resilience. After completing his military service, he continued supporting and protecting others through his work with U.S. Customs, a role he carried out with pride.

JC was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Katie; his children, Kaylee and John; his parents, John and Daniela Macaras; and his sister, Jessica, her husband Derrick, and their children Zander and Shealee.

To those who knew him, JC was affectionately known as "Mr. MacGyver"-resourceful, practical, and always prepared. He had a passion for survival skills and self-sustainment and enjoyed learning from books, videos, and shows. He loved comic books, military history, survival programs, the humor of The Simpsons, and the craft of woodworking, which brought him peace and satisfaction. While he wasn't always talkative, he carried a deep inner world, full of thought and quiet observation.

A true gentle giant, JC was unwaveringly loyal. If someone needed help, he gave it-fully, reliably, without hesitation. He always gave 100% in everything he did. His family was the center of his life, and he would defend and protect them with everything he had.

JC's passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, curiosity, and the enormous heart he carried behind his quiet demeanor.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 2 P.M. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
