John E. Machado Sr., beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2024 at the age of 57 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas. John was born February 11th, 1967 to Hazel Mae Van Valkenburg and Robert (Bob) Machado in Oakland, California. John was a devoted family man whose love for his family was matched only by his passion for the outdoors.
John was primarily raised in San Leandro, CA by his parents and beloved grandmother, "Grandma Van". He graduated high school in 1985 from Tracy High in Tracy, CA. He started his career as a HVAC mechanic, working for his Dad and eventually making it a life-long career in the sheet metal trade, retiring with the Local 104 Sheet Metal Union in Bay Area, CA.
John was a very loving, loyal and faithful husband to Jennifer Machado for 20+ years, having celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in May of this year with a vow renewal ceremony surrounded by family and friends. John was a strong, humorous and caring father to Jessica Machado (1993) and John Machado Jr. (1996), whom he had with his former wife. John was an adored grandfather to his rst-born granddaughter, Hazel Belle Machado, having being born in August of this year (2024).
John had many outdoor hobbies that he enjoyed including his latest trip to New Mexico in which he was able to tag a Bull Elk. He loved deep sea shing, waterfowl hunting, and deer hunting. You could label him as an extravagant outdoor enthusiast. His favorite vacations included multiple tropical vacations with his wife and camping with his kids. His most recent hobby had been running his Farm between cows, chickens and pigs.
John never knew a stranger. He could walk in somewhere, and come out 45 minutes later with a new contact in his phone. His sense of humor was like that of no other, always cracking jokes and being sure that he made you smile whenever he could.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, of the home; daughter, Jessica Machado and son-in-law Paul Price of Kalamazoo, Michigan; son, John Machado Jr. and daughter-in-law Kaylee Machado, of Abilene, KS; son, Erik Hakanson, of Atascadero, CA; grandchildren, Hazel Belle Machado, of Abilene; and Dean and James Hakanson, of Atascadero; father, Robert Machado, of Modesto, CA; sister, Pam Toland, of Madera, CA; sister, Denae DeGough, of Modesto, CA; brother, Dustin Machado, of Modesto, CA; and many more family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Mae Machado, and grandparents; as well as his devoted bird-dog Captain Jack Sprig and loyal companion Tank.
