Mr. John Edward Machen, Sr., age 87, of Marietta, GA passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday, March 28, 2025 in the chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA. The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am prior to the ceremony at the funeral home. His urn will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Monday, March 31st at 9am.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mr. Machen lived most of his life in Marietta, GA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1956 until 1959. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Jacksonville University in Florida. He retired after a 36 year career at Chevron working as a Supervisor of Maintenance. Mr. Machen was a longtime member of Roswell United Methodist Church, was an avid University of Florida sports fan, loved playing and watching golf, and enjoyed traveling, collecting different memorabilia, and photography.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jean Machen; 2 sons, John Machen, Jr. of Texas, and Scott Machen, Dallas, GA; Niece, Denise Machen of California; 3 Step Children, Greg (Jackie) Pickerill, Ball Ground, GA, Lisa Lockhart, Acworth, GA, and Stacy (Kyle) Eiselstein, Lookout Mountain, GA; and 9 grandchildren.
