Joycelyn McDermott was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend. She peacefully departed this life and gained her angel wings on February 4, 2026, at the age of 71. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 11:00 am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
Joycelyn was born on February 10, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Levi McDermott and Beatrice Silvera. From the moment she entered the world, her vibrant spirit shined brightly. She was known for her caring heart, generous nature, and her genuine love for helping others.
In her early teenage years, Joycelyn welcomed her first daughter, Sharon, followed by Eulene and Sandy.
Determined to create a better life for herself and her three daughters, Joycelyn courageously migrated first to Canada and later to the United States. She worked tirelessly, using her remarkable skills as a cook to provide for her family. Through every challenge, she persevered with strength, faith in God, and unwavering determination, never allowing difficult times to define her spirit or to deter her from succeeding in meeting her goals.
Joycelyn found great joy in traveling and shopping with her daughters, cherishing the moments they spent together. Over the years, her family grew, and she was blessed to become a grandmother to ten grandchildren and a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
In addition to her devotion to family, Joycelyn had a passion for cooking and baking her homemade rum cakes were legendary! A sweet symbol of the love she poured into everything she did. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue through the Joycelyn House Foundation, established in her honor by her daughter Sharon, to help mothers and children and to carry forward her generous spirit.
Joycelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Levi McDermott and Beatrice Silvera, as well as sisters Miriam Broomfield, Ivey McDermott and Brothers Bommie and Roy
She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory her daughters, Sharon, Eulene, Sandy and a few bonus children Brent, Annette, Karen, Keith, Richard, Pierre; her son's-in-law David, Noel and Tray; her grandchildren, Alexander, Nastassia, David, Ashley, Anthony, Patrick aka TJ, Desyne, Cyeana, Aaron, and Chassidy; her great-grandchildren, Issiah, Jevhon, Olivia, and Maverick; her brothers, Leslie Barrington McDermott, George Paul McDermott sister-in-law, Jackie and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and caretakers.
Joycelyn McDermott's life was a testament to love, resilience, and selflessness. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
