James Daniel Dunn

James Daniel Dunn, age 80, of Powder Springs, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs with Pastor Chip Dean and Rev. Mike Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. James was born on December 21, 1945 in Atlanta to William and Willie Mae Dunn, and lived his entire life in the metropolitan Atlanta area. From an early age he was known for his kindness and humor. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. In 1979, James opened and began Prime Contractors where he was dedicated to his career and his colleagues remember him for his work ethic, leadership and compassion. He was a founding board member of Highland Commercial Bank, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy K. Dunn; 2 children, James Michael (Jodi) Dunn, Powder Springs, GA, and Daniel Keith (Cherie) Dunn, Dallas, GA; brother, Johnny Ray (Angie) Bailey; 3 grandchildren, Dylan (Shea) Dunn, Glenwood Springs, CO, Taylor Dunn, Dallas, GA, and Grace Dunn, Dallas, GA, as well as many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. James was preceded in death by his parents, William Greer Dunn and Willie Mae Dunn, siblings, Lydia Dunn Jones and Frank Joel Bailey, and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn (Katie) Michele Dunn. The family will receive friends and celebrate his life from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, February 20, 2026 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs Scholarship Fund. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the support, prayers, and love shown during this difficult time. James will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
