John Mainella Obituary
John was a graduate of Fairmont Catholic. After graduation he worked for Valley Distributing, sold cars at Urse Dodge and was the manager of Crocketts. John enjoyed listening to Motown, golfing and watching sports. He loved to cheer on the Astro's, WVU, Fairmont State, Notre Dame and Fairmont Senior. John coached many sports and refereed basketball and umpired baseball.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Angela Mainella Heitger and Michael Mainella, grandchildren: CJ Heitger and his wife KayLynne, Drew Heitger and his wife Kasey, great grandchildren: Jordan, KayLeigh, Oliver, Karolina and Daxton and his partner in life Donna Pitrolo.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with his wishes, John will be cremated.
Friends and family may gather for a celebration of life at Lambert Hall – St. Peter the Fisherman, 407 Jackson Street, Fairmont, West Virginia, 26554, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Please accept my sincere sympathy in the passing of your loved one. John Michael was my Coach at Fairmont Catholic where we won the 6th Grade Championship. I enjoyed the many stories he told as we visited at Colasessanos, Crocketts, and many other places as well as athletic events. I also witnessed his athleticism at fast-pitch softball games. As many probably have stated, John Michael was a legend!
