John F. Mansen

John Mansen, 87, died on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Longhorn Village in Austin Texas. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Joyce; his sons David and wife Carol, San Antonio; Kenneth, Leander; Craig, wife Madeline, and grandchildren, Chad and Grace, Austin; and brother Robert and wife Dorothy, Grand Prairie. John was born on July 15, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois of parents Bernardus (Red) and Helen Mansen. He grew up in Oak Park and went to Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, graduating in with a degree in Economics. He joined the Army in 1951 and served as a Corporal in the Finance Corp in Germany. After his service, he returned to Illinois to wed Joyce Marie Weiskopf whom he met at Beloit College. They were married on August 28, 1953. John began his career with Shell Oil Company in 1953 as an auditor. His career took him and the family from Chicago to New York, Atlanta, Georgia, and back to New York. He helped with the relocation of Shell Oil from its New York City headquarters to Houston Texas in 1971. He retired as Chief Economist in 1992. John and Joyce retired to Lakeway where they spent many hours enjoying boating on Lake Travis and the view from their home. He was able to continue his lifelong passion for tennis. They moved to Longhorn Village in 2012. There will be a memorial service at Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd, on Monday, June 12, at 10AM. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lakeway Church.
