John Marshall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 9 to Jun. 13, 2023.
Jack Marshall, longtime resident of Leona Valley and a well known broker in the Antelope Valley real estate community, has died of complications of Parkinson's disease after a 17-year struggle.

He was born in Indianapolis Indiana and raised in Chicago. He earned his undergraduate B.S. degree at Arizona State University and a Masters degree from the Thunderbird School of International Management in Tempe, Arizona.

He worked in management positions in New York City early in his career for TWA Airlines and other companies. As a stock broker with Merrill Lynch he transferred to Los Angeles in 1971, and soon after became a commercial loan officer with Union Bank. After earning his real estate license he embarked on a career in commercial real estate, and worked for over a decade with Beitler Commercial Real Estate Services in Los Angeles.

He moved to Leona Valley with his wife, Julie, in 1989, and in 1991 he joined her as a sales broker at Ana Verde Realty in Palmdale. They acquired the company in 1996.

Jack worked closely with the Palmdale Board of Realtors beginning in 1993. He served on several committees, most notably the Government Relations Committee, where his efforts to speed up the sale of HUD foreclosures helped mitigate the Antelope Valley housing crisis.

For several years Jack worked tirelessly to merge the Palmdale Board of Realtors and the Antelope Valley Board of Realtors, and in 1998-1999 became the founding President of the Greater Antelope Valley Board of Realtors (GAVAR). He then spearheaded the development of the new GAVAR headquarters building where GAVAR still operates.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva (Mack) Mulis (1993), his adoptive father Marshall Mulis (1999), and two brothers, Jeffrey Mulis (1993) and Charlie Mulis (2023). He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Julie (Milliken) Marshall.

Jack also leaves behind his beloved sisters and brothers in law, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Services will be private.
