I just heard about John's death and wanted to offer my condolences. I met him in 7th grade and had classes with him throughout high school. He was an intelligent, clever, and extremely witty person, and the world will miss him. Take care.

Dear Joel and Janie,

I was so shocked to get the phone call last weekend about John. It is such a tragedy when someone so young is not with us anymore. We might not ever understand it but I am comforted to know that he is in heaven now and is happy and content. I am glad I got to come home this past weekend and visit with you both and visit John's grave and say goodbye. I will remember John as a witty, fun, intelligent guy with a twinkle in his eye and always a plan to conquer a new dream. He was a great friend and a good person and I am honored to have known him and to have been his friend. I am thankful for the fond memories I will have of John and I's time together.

Janie, Joel, Jan, and Jamie, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Although I did not know John, I know how important he was to you. I was so impressed at the closeness of your family and his willingness to serve as Jan's "Man of Honor" in her wedding. That must be a wonderful memory. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart and prayers go out to the Mashburn Family. Your family was always very supportive and friendly during my formative years as a child. I will always remember John having a certain sensibilty and comedic wit as an actor that I enjoyed watching. I have many lasting memories as a kid, and one of them is riding my bike through the woods and arriving at the Mashburn house to see if John and Jan were home.

Sincerely,

I can not fathom what you must be feeling at this time and I pray for comfort and understanding for us all. I met John in 7th grade at East Iredell Elementary school and it was obvious by his sense of humor that he would always be a likable friend, and he was. I have many fantastic memories of middle school with John as we always ended up in the same classes and Odyessy of the Mind teams. It was an honor to know him and for that I thank you. May God grant you peace. Love, Kari Kerr Lindeman
