John Michael Mathis, known to his loved ones as "Mike," was born on June 21, 1973 in Irving, Texas. He departed from this world on March 7, 2024 in Spencer, Indiana.
Mike is survived by his mother, Debbie Stafford and step-father, John Stafford; his wife, Christi Mathis; his son, Xander Mathis; his step-daughter, Alexandria Hale; his sister, Christie Stafford (Tobey Moore); and his bother, Shawn Stafford (Lezlie Corn); additionally he leaves behind two nephews, Gavin Fender and Logan Tingle; and a niece, Trinity Tingle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Mathis; maternal grandparents, Freda (Cecil) Dayhuff and Ernest Carrithers as well as paternal grandparents, John and Vera Mathis.
In life Mike was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He found solace within the pages of a book. He enjoyed cooking, movies and music alike.
Above all else through, Mike treasured spending time and gaming with his son, Xander.
Despite being a quiet individual by nature, it was evident that Mike possessed remarkable intellect. After graduating from Edgewood High School in 1993 with distinction, he pursued higher education at Indiana University where he focused on geology.
Private arrangements have been made under the compassionate care of West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer.
