I shared a lot with John, as a neighbor, fellow Indian Princess dad,
golf for several years until his back said "no mass" , half a dozen 49er games at "the Stick", and more at one of our homes, the odd Giants game. John treated me to a Leonard Cohen concert and a Bruce Springsteen. He was so generous, amazing. And we both had a taste for G & T´s (Gin & tonics) He will dearly missed. RIP

I went to grade school and high school with John. Those were our formative years and he was an all-around inspiration. I worked in advertising in Atlanta -- John was a legend. Pax Vobiscum.

My lifetime memories of John are too many to list. All of them cherished. I am so grateful to his family for including me in their lives as well. I could not ask for more wonderful influencers. May God bring you comfort in this time of grief.

John was my first writing teacher at an early agency for both of us-Cargill, Wilson, and Acree in Atlanta. I followed him to Burton Campbell where he remained a mentor and dear friend. He was generous, kind, smart smart, and a pleasure to know. We lived in the same neighborhood when his children were born. John deserved to live a very long time and know how much we, his old friends and colleagues, always thought of him.

Dear family of John Mattingly, the traits you identify in John´s obituary were experienced by all of us in his college fraternity-gentleness, kindness, quiet brilliance. I know you miss him. May God comfort you all.
