John Joseph "Bud" McCabe, 94, of Genoa, IL, died Friday, August 8, 2025, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL.
Born August 23, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph McCabe and Eleanor Osche. John married Wanda Aiken on March 5,1955 in DeKalb.
John was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War, from 1950-1953 as a Corporal and earned the Expert Rifleman award.
John was a past Moose Lodge, Legion, and Knights of Colombus member. He was also a fireman for the Genoa-Kingston Fire Dept., as well as a crossing guard for the DeKalb and Genoa Police Dept. He worked for Automatic Electric in Genoa, IL for 16 ½ years and worked at A.O. Smith in DeKalb for 17 ½ years. He also worked for the C.N.W. Railroad in DeKalb for 6 years.
John is survived by his children, Mary Elizabeth (Joel) Unger; grandchildren, Joseph Monk, Michelle Monk, Zoe McCabe and Dahlton McCabe; great-grandchildren, Austin Monk, Kyle Monk and Viktoria Monk; siblings, Al McCabe and Rita Gallo.
He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda; parents and daughter, Brenda McCabe.

Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 pm Friday, August 15, 2025, at Kingston Cemetery, 210 N. Hunter Rd., 60145 with visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Friday, August 15, 2025 at Olson's Cooper-Quiram Chapel, 202 E. Main Street Genoa, IL 60135
Burial will be at Kingston Cemetery, Kingston.
