John McCabe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parks Funeral Home - Summerville on Feb. 28, 2026.
John W. McCabe, Jr., 73, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving wife, Susan, and his devoted son, Trevor. After nearly seven years of courageously battling cancer-defeating it twice-along with many other health challenges, he left this world in the comfort of his family's presence.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 3 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends for a visitation an hour before the service. Flowers are accepted, or memorials can be made in honor of John to the Wounded Warriors Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org; or the Charleston Animal Society, www.charlestonanimalsociety.org.

John was born on February 18, 1953, to the late John McCabe, Sr. and Juanita McCabe. He dedicated 39 years of service as a clerk and checker with Local ILA 1771 on the docks. Known as "Jay" to his friends and family, his coworkers affectionately called him "Bossman." At work, he was often imitated but never duplicated.

He enjoyed fishing, playing games on his phone, watching wrestling, and spending time with animals. Above all, he loved spoiling his grandchildren before his illness made him unable to do so.

John is survived by his loving wife, Susan McCabe of Summerville, SC; sons, Trevor McCabe of Charlotte, NC, John "Trey" McCabe III of Pineville, NC; brother, Jerry McCabe of Charleston, SC; sisters, Joanna Haught (BJ) of Summerville, SC. Jean France (Jimmy) of Cross, SC; grandchildren, Kaelin McCabe, Logan Sonnycalf, Leah McCabe, Marley McCabe, John McCabe IV, Weston-Kash McCabe. He is predeceased by his parents; John McCabe, Sr. and Juanita McCabe; son, Austin McCabe; and brother, Charles "Jack" McCabe.
