CARAWAY - John Edgar McCormick (Johnny), age 75, of Caraway, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 5, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 11, 1950, in Manila, to the late JT and Esther McCormick. John was a lifelong resident of Caraway and a member of Rowe's Chapel Baptist church.
Johnny served in the United States Army from May 1969 to January 1971. While serving in Vietnam, he was critically wounded and received three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. A Combat Wounded Veteran who served with Honor and Distinction at a critical time during our Nation's history in Vietnam, as a "Recon Specialist" with Co. E, 1st Bn. 46th Lt. Inf. Brigade, "Charger-Ahead of the Rest". His service reflects great credit upon himself, his community, the U.S. Army, and the United States of America. "This We'll Defend."
Johnny loved Jesus, his family, spending time with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, and his country.
He is preceded in death by his father, JT McCormick; his mother, Esther McCormick; brothers, Teddy McCormick, Tony McCormick, and Marty McCormick; and his grandson Judah Guntharp, as well as fellow combat brother and friend Tommy Lamberson.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christy McCormick and his daughters Mary Dunkerson (Dan) of Black Oak, and Sarah Hogan (Nathan) of Loxley, Ala.; grandchildren, Elijah, Anna, Eliana and Isaiah; his God given son, Alfred Thomas (Robin) of Jonesboro; his mother-in-law Johnnie Rae Barnes of Mountain Home; and his siblings, Burl McCormick, Lola Penny (Jim), Trent McCormick, Nancy Corter (Jim), and Vickie Harrison (Jerry).
A homegoing celebration will be on Monday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., with Logan Justice officiating and Howard Funeral Service in Leachville in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Caraway Memorial Cemetery with Derek McCormick, Bryan McCormick, Blake McCormick, Ben Malone, Will Corter, and Billy Pendergrass serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time.
